Thank you for this interesting read. I do agree that it becomes a meaningless title if applied to everyone, and devalues the enormous work and practice that a creative spends in becoming accomplished.

I'm in a therapy group for those with CPTSD . Due to the nature of living with sustained trauma, everyone is a HSP, as I'm sure you can imagine. There also seems to be a disproportionate amount of creativity within the group too. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on that 🙂.

Totally resonates! I have always felt on some level the inauthenticity of that phrase and how it feels discordant to even say. While I do think sometimes people use it with the intention to "help" others, it is very misguided because like you mentioned it is creating the conditions for people to not be who they truly are with the actual gifts they have been given. This creates a sense of shame like you said, and also of "not being good enough". So we have to be more than what we are.

Great piece brother! :) Thank you for sharing.

P.S. A word that comes to mind with all of this is "semantics". I think it's good to ask honest questions about the things we say and labels we use. I know for myself it is something to work on. as I have applied both "good" and "bad" labels on myself that have created a lot of issues with my self concept and perception. And I am still learning to not attach to them, even the positive ones since that does not create freedom in the end.

I know that as a sensitive and creative man, word use makes a difference in how I perceive what's being said. If someone tells me they are a doctor, then I assume, from semantics, that they are highly skilled in some area that requires an advanced degree.

Thank you for your comment, Jamiel! Peace, brother!

Sure thing! And I relate with what you said here. Helps save us from a lot of confusion too. Peace!
