When I attended broadcasting school, we were made to memorize fifty vocabulary words a day for the entirety of our time there. Nothing could have thrilled me more. I have participated in spelling bees as an adult. Usually they were fundraisers for some non-profit or another, but I couldn’t be bothered by worrying whether they raised money or not. I was there for the thrill of words.
Every so often, a dictionary company will come out with a list of words that fit some theme, like Merriam-Webster did here.
